BARCELONA QUIERE SER FIEL A SU PASADO Y RENOVAR SU TRADICIóN DE LUGAR DE ENCUENTRO Y DE DEBATE INTERNACIONAL. SU PRESENCIA EN ESTA CASA, SR. SECRETARIO GENERAL, HA DE SER UN HITO HISTóRICO EN ESTE CAMINO. EN EFECTO. NADA PUEDE ENCARNAR MEJOR NUESTROS DESEOS QUE LA PRESENCIA DEL MáS ALTO REPRESENTANTE DE LA INSTITUCIóN QUE, PESE A TODOS SUS DEFECTOS, ES EL úNICO FORO MUNDIAL DE DEBATE, EL iNICO LUGAR DONDE LAS �NACIONES DEL MUNDO SE ENCUENTRAN EN IGUALDAD DE CONDICIONES. BARCELONA SE SIENTE SOLIDARIA CON EL ESPíRITU Y LAS ACTIVIDADES DEL SISTEMA DE NACIONES UNIDAS Y ASPIRA A COOPERAR CON EL MISMO EN LA MEDIDA DE SUS POSIBILIDADES. ASí LO HEMOS DADO A ENTENDER AL OFRECERNOS COMO SEDE DE LA CONFERENCIA DEL FNUAP QUE TIENE LUGAR ESTOS DÍAS. Y ESPERAMOS CONTINUAR HACIÉNDOLO OBTENIENDO LA SEDE DE LOS JUEGOS OLíMPICOS DE 1992.
