Ha mort Joan Reventós, que va ser un dels fundadors del moviment socialista de Catalunya, primer secretari i president del Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya, i finalment president del Parlament de Catalunya. No va ser president de la Generalitat i segurament que molts catalans esperaven que ho fos, però va ser aquell que va posar tota la fermesa a fer tornar el president Tarradellas de l'exili; va ser ell, el seu partit, i la seva decisió qui el va fer tornar, perquè les forces polítiques del moment no n'estaven gaire convençudes. I Joan Reventós, vencedor de les eleccions de 1977, es va conformar a ser un més dels consellers, el més prominent probablement, però un més del govern de Tarradellas, un govern d'unitat que crec que va fressar el camí de Catalunya que ara vivim. Joan Reventós avui hauria vist néixer una altra governació de Catalunya, la que a ell li agradava, basada en la convicció que el poble de Catalunya, la nació, ho és autènticament quan els ciutadans la fan seva; i la fan sobre la base dels drets que la nació els atorga i no solament en funció de la història del passat, sinó sobretot en funció dels drets. És difícil que un poble s'atreveixi a seguir aquest camí, abandonar el paraigua de la història i llançar-se al camí ample i de vegades ignot i difícil del futur, però només els pobles que s'atreveixen a això, acaben sent autènticament pobles i autènticament nacions. Joan Reventós era dels que volia una Catalunya i un poble català que no visquessin només de la fidelitat del record, que s'ha de tenir i és el punt de partida, sinó també d'un objectiu final viscut i compartit, d'uns drets guanyats, d'una ciutadania creixent i d'un creixement respectat per a la nació. Era una persona al mateix temps modesta i potent, amiga dels seus amics i molt ferma en les seves conviccions; una persona que venia d'una estirp, d'una família que ja havia governat Catalunya i Espanya, l'Espanya republicana; un socialista de soca-rel, un socialista de pedra picada, un ciutadà que honora Catalunya tant com els seus representants. Reventós, con Joan Rigol, Heribert del Parlament, Joan Rigol, ante Jordi Pujol, en 1999 Catalunya está de luto PASQUAL MARAGALL L a muerte de Joan Reventós es un momento de duelo y de reconocimiento. De duelo por el maestro que hemos perdido y de reconocimiento por su legado político. Sin las actitudes humanas y la obra política de Joan Reventós hoy no tendríamos Generalitat ni tendríamos un gobierno catalanista y de izquierdas. No tendríamos, al menos, la Generalitat con todo su legado histórico incorporado. En junio de 1977, Reventós decidió la suerte de Catalunya optando por reclamar, casi en solitario, el retorno del president Tarradellas. Un retorno que fue crucial para el reencuentro de Catalunya con su historia democrática. Tarradellas optó sabiamente por un gobierno de unidad, fórmula que, sin embargo, quitó a Reventós el protagonismo que le correspondía. Tampoco tendríamos ahora un gobierno de izquierdas y catalanista sin la semilla de una cultura política unitaria que se concretó en los diferentes procesos políticos que Joan Reventós impulsó siempre con la voluntad de sumar y de integrar: la unidad antifranquista que culminó con la Assemblea de Catalunya, la unidad del socialismo catalán y la colaboración de las fuerzas de progreso en los primeros pasos de la democracia y el autogobierno recuperados. Joan Reventós hoy hubiese visto nacer otra gobernación de Catalunya, la que a él le gustaba, basada en la convicción de que el pueblo de Catalunya, la nación, lo es auténticamente cuando los ciudadanos la hacen suya; y la hacen sobre la base de los derechos que la nación les otorga hoy no solamente en función del pasado. Es difícil que un pueblo se atreva a seguir este camino, abandonar el paraguas de la historia y lanzarse al camino amplio y en ocasiones ignoto y difícil del futuro, pero sólo los pueblos que se atreven a eso acaban siendo auténticamente naciones. Joan Reventós era de los que querían una Catalunya y un pueblo catalán que no viviesen sólo de la fidelidad al recuerdo, que se ha de tener de punto de partida, sino también de un objetivo final compartido, de unos derechos ganados, de una ciudadanía creciente y de un proyecto respetado entendido por todo el mundo. Ahora estamos iniciando lo que Reventós quería, la Catalunya gobernada desde una idea de progreso, de justicia y de igualdad. Joan Reventós ha resistido más de dos años hasta ver el inicio del proyecto político que habría imaginado y que se resumía así, en palabras suyas. “De la misma manera que hace veinte años fuimos capaces de formular el proyecto que nos permitió recuperar las libertades y poner las bases de la democracia y del autogobierno, ahora empieza la hora de un nuevo proyecto colectivo que nos permita dar un paso adelante y que esté a la altura de un pueblo que quiere sentirse plenamente heredero de su futuro.” Ésta es para mí la lección política de Reventós. Pero más allá de la política hay una lección humana mucho más profunda y emotiva, la de su solidez moral, la de su modestia personal, la de su capacidad para conjugar la PASQUAL MARAGALL I MIRA, presidente de la Generalitat firmeza de sus principios con un espíritu siempre abierto al diálogo y a los nuevos planteamientos. Es el Reventós del que recuerdo unas emocionadas palabras a raíz de la muerte de sus padres, con las que me apelaba a ser digno de su herencia. En este momento quiero añadir a aquella obligación contraída, la de ser, de ahora en adelante, también un fiel servidor del legado de Joan Reventós.c ALBERT AYMAMÍ / ARCHIVO Barrera y Joaquim Xicoy, en abril del 2000 Viejo amigo, hombre fiel JORDI PUJOL C uando en el inicio de la legislatura 1995-1999, de una manera que me sorprendió, un pacto de cuatro fuezas políticas contra una dio la presidencia del Parlament a los socialistas, y no a Joan Rigol, que era el candidato de CiU, me enfadé mucho. Mucho. Pero también di- je: “Para mí, lo único que tiene de bueno esto es que el president sea Reventós. Porque se merece un reconocimiento del pueblo de Catalunya”. Y de esa forma se lo comenté a él mismo. Por cierto, que cuando se lo dije, él me explicó que aquella noche iban a cenar él, su esposa Josefa y sus siete hijos y no sé cuantos sobrevenidos. Yo le dije: “Tú has tenido siempre un sentido muy fuerte de la familia. Esta noche seréis muy felices. Felícitalos de mi parte”. Esto son anécdotas, pero explican el tipo de relación que tuve con él, desde que en el año 1946 lo conocí en el grupo Torras i Bages, y después cuando íbamos a pintar “Visca Catalunya” en las paredes a altas horas de la madrugada con Pere Figuera. Aquello, desde las conferencias y las clases de catalán en DIVERGIMOS CON frecuencia, pero siempre nos respetamos y siempre supimos que teníamos muchas cosas en común PEDRO MADUEÑO LUTO EN EL TRIPARTITO. El president Maragall, Carod-Rovira y Saura acudieron ayer al tanatorio de Les Corts PEDRO MADUEÑO COMPAÑERO EN LA CLANDESTINIDAD. Jordi Pujol manifestó ayer su gran aprecio por Reventós, con quien coincidió en la lucha antifranquista las revistas casi confidenciales y las pintadas, era una acción más de afirmación catalanista que política en el pleno sentido de la palabra. Después Reventós decidió pasar al campo más propiamente político. Y más adelante, ya todos incorporados a la política, divergiendo a menudo, y a veces fuertemente, pero siempre nos respetamos y siempre supimos que había entre nosotros muchas cosas en común. Procuramos mantener siempre una relación leal. Dos anécdotas más. Hace muchos años, en uno de mis mítines, yo dejé caer y dije una cosa negativa de Reventós y que era una deformación de la verdad. Aquella noche estuve pensando y al día siguiente lo llamé: “Joan, perdona. Esto no se repetirá”. Por cierto, que aquello me marcó positivamente. Y en sentido inverso, recuerdo que en un momento de durísimo enfrentamiento entre Convergència i Unió y los socialistas –con fuerte contenido de agresión contra mi persona– él me dijo: “Jordi, lo siento. Pero no puedo hacer nada más”. Y noté que lo sentía de verdad. (Por cierto, Reventós ha sido el político que menos se me ha dirigido como “president”, fuera de los actos muy estrictamente oficiales. Siempre me llamó “Jordi”. También en público. También esto se lo agradezco.) Como decía, las anécdotas también sirven para definir a un personaje. Para definir a un hombre de alta calidad personal y de convicción. Un hombre al que Catalunya debe respeto, admiración y agradecimiento. Muchos otros hablarán de él desde un punto de vista político e ideológico. Tampoc tindríem ara un Govern d’esquerres i catalanista sense la llavor d’una cultura política unitària que es va concretar en els diferents processos polítics que Reventós va impulsar sempre amb la voluntat de sumar i inte- drets guanyats, una ciutadania creixent i un projecte respectat entès per tothom. Ara estem iniciant el que Reventós volia, la Catalunya governada des d’una idea de progrés, de justícia i d’igualtat. Reventós ha resistit més de dos anys fins a veure el començament del projecte polític que hauria imaginat i que es resumia així, en paraules seves: «De la mateixa manera que fa 20 anys vàrem ser capaços de formular el projecte que ens va permetre recuperar les llibertats i posar les bases de la democràcia i l’autogovern, ara comença l’hora d’un nou projecte col . lectiu que ens permeti fer un nou salt endavant i que estigui a l’alçada d’un poble que vol sentir-se plenament hereu del seu futur». Avui hauria vist néixer un altre Govern, el que a ell li agradava 33 Reventós, amb Tarradellas, Bricall, Gutiérrez Díaz i Pujol, el gener del 1979. grar: la unitat antifranquista que va culminar amb l’Assemblea de Catalunya, la unitat del socialisme català i la col.laboració de les forces de progrés en els primers passos de la democràcia i de l’autogovern recuperats. Reventós avui hauria vist néixer un altre Govern de Catalunya, el que a ell li agradava, basat en la convicció que el poble de Catalunya, la nació, ho és autènticament quan els ciutadans la fan seva; i ho fan sobre la base dels drets que la nació els atorga avui, no solament en funció del passat. És difícil que un poble s’atreveixi a seguir aquest camí, abandonar el paraigua de la història i llançar-se al camí ample i de vegades ignot i difícil del futur, però només els pobles que s’atreveixen a això acaben sent autènticament pobles i autènticament nacions. Reventós era dels que volien una Catalunya i un poble català que no visquessin només de la fidelitat al record, que s’ha de tenir i és el punt de partida, sinó també d’un objectiu final compartit, d’uns Aquesta és per mi la lliçó política de Reventós. Però més enllà de la política hi ha la lliçó humana, molt més profunda i colpidora, la de la seva solidesa moral, la seva modèstia personal, la seva capacitat de conjugar la fermesa dels seus principis amb un esperit obert sempre al diàleg i a nous plantejaments. És el Reventós de qui recordo unes emocionades paraules arran de la mort del meu pare, amb què m’apel.lava a ser digne de la seva herència. En aquest moment vull afegir a aquella obligació contreta, la de ser, d’ara endavant, també un fidel servidor del llegat de Joan Reventós. H TRIBUNA TRIBUNA UN COMPANY EN QUI LES GRANS VICTÒRIES COL.LECTIVES D’UN IDEALISTA ES PODIA CONFIAR RAIMON OBIOLS EXPRIMER SECRETARI DEL PSC Quan Joan Reventós era un jove estudiant, a finals dels anys 40, va fer una doble aposta vital que ha mantingut tenaçment al llarg de tota una vida: confiar en les paraules, les idees i els projectes de la política; i confiar en els altres i dedicar-se a treballar amb ells per a uns objectius col.lectius. Reventós féu una aposta idealista. L’actual realisme, convencional i individualista, diria que això l’havia de dur directament al fracàs. En canvi, si repassem els objectius inicials del jove Reventós, en la tenebrosa època del franquisme victoriós, veurem que han estat assolits i que, en aquesta victòria, Reventós hi jugà un paper de primer rengle i, en alguns casos, decisiu. Reventós i els seus companys es proposaren la unitat dels socialistes de Catalunya i l’aconseguiren: ell, en particular, fou el principal artífex de la construcció del PSC. Es proposaren superar les divisions de les forces antifranquistes, i foren partícips principals del procés d’unitat democràtica a Cata- lunya; Reventós, especialment, fou un dels artífexs principals del procés que portà fins a l’Assemblea de Catalunya. Es proposà –contra les posicions d’una majoria de realistes– exigir el restabliment de la Generalitat de Catalunya i el retorn del vell president exiliat: essent Reventós el cap de la força més aclaparadorament votada el 15-J de 1977, renuncià a qualsevol pretensió personal i treballà decisivament perquè Tarradellas tornés, com a president, al Palau de la Generalitat, en l’episodi més bell i més pur de tota la transició. Reventós somià també amb un Govern d’esquerres i un president socialista; ho ha pogut veure abans de morir. Si considerem, com ho féu Reventós al llarg de tota la seva vida, que l’èxit en política no es mesura en termes de poder personal sinó en termes d’assoliment d’objectius col.lectius, la conclusió és que Reventós ha estat un gran guanyador. Ho ha estat també en un altre aspecte essencial: el seu esforç polític de més de mig segle d’activitat incessant l’ha fet un home complet, amb un sentit gairebé religiós del respecte envers l’altre, una dilatada i rica experiència vital i una multitud d’amics i amigues. Els revolucionaris americans del segle XVIII parlaven de la «felicitat pública». Joan Reventós n’ha estat un magnífic mestre. H JOSEP MARIA TRIGINER EXDIRIGENT DE LA FEDERACIÓ CATALANA DEL PSOE A principis dels anys 60 vaig tenir ocasió de conèixer Joan Reventós per les meves activitats polítiques. Ell tenia la meva simpatia, respecte i complicitat per haver estat detingut com a socialista el 1958, coincidint amb la detenció de la Comissió Executiva del PSOE. Les trobades d’aquella època tenien el propòsit d’intercanviar informació i valoracions sobre la situació política. Eren reunions formals, entre companys socialistes que tenien diferents maneres d’entendre i de viure la política, i van acabar sent l’ocasió per aproximar sensibilitats i refermar la confiança entre l’un i l’altre. Els fets viscuts en aquelles dates van augmentar la nostra amistat, molt a pesar que s’anaven incrementant les nostres diferències polítiques. El record d’aquells temps és que en Joan era una persona que, més enllà de les diferències, sabia escoltar i raonar amb els arguments dels seus adversaris. Després de la ruptura formal de relacions amb el PSOE, com a conseqüència de la cons- titució de la Federació de Partits Socialistes, Reventós va ser capaç de seguir dialogant amb la FSC-PSOE a través de reunions que van permetre formalitzar la unificació dels socialistes de Catalunya. Llavors, era l’única persona que ens infonia confiança i credibilitat. Coneixedors dels problemes que podia aportar la unitat socialista, vam acabar confiant en aquella única persona que era capaç de situar-se en les raons i en la sensibilitat del seu interlocutor. Sense aquesta confiança personal, s’haurien necessitat uns quants anys més per poder plantejar la unitat dels socialistes a Catalunya. Queden enrere les diferències polítiques i aflora la persona, l’amistat i la gratitud. En Joan ha estat un home que ha estimat la seva terra i el seu país, al mateix temps que es feia fort en la defensa de les seves conviccions democràtiques i socialistes. Ha sabut fer-se estimar pels seus amics i respectar pels seus adversaris. Els que l’hem estimat com a amic ens sentim orgullosos d’haver comptat amb la seva amistat. Els que l’han conegut com a polític, per sobre de les diferències que puguin haver sostingut, saben reconèixer-li que va ser una d’aquelles persones que va saber posar les seves conviccions per sobre de qualsevol altra consideració personal, partidista.
