I si els Jocs seran l'ocasió per millorar tot Barcelona, aquesta millora es manifestarà amb més intensitat al Poble Nou. Els veïns del Poble Nou ho sabeu ben bé. Barcelona s'obrirà al mar a través del Poble Nou. El Poble Nou deixarà d'estar aïllat de la resta de la ciutat. El barri obtindrà una qualitat urbana i uns equipaments col.lectius que poques ciutats tindran. Pera el més important d'una ciutat, d'un barri, és la seva gent. El paisatge canviarà, l'aïllament desapareixerà. Pera es ben segur que la cohesió social, la consciència de barri que els veïns de Poble Nou tenen no desapareixeran mai. Això és el que garanteix l'èxit de la renovació del Poble Nou. I això és també el que farà d'aquesta Festa Major de 1987 la millor i més divertida de quantes el Poble Nou ha tingut fins ara. Els Jocs Olímpics ens ajudaran a transformar Barcelona. Barcelona canviarà molt en cinc anys. Però per molt que canviï Barcelona la Vila de Gracia sempre será la Vila de Gracia. I encara ho serà més. Perqué una part de la transformació que volem donar a Barcelona és la recuperació de la p ersonalitat dels seus barris antics i consolidar la dels barris més nous. I p er aquest objectiu Gracia és un exemple. I vull pensar també que per molt que canviï Barcelona la Festa Major de Gracia es continuarà celebrant. Perquè per molts barcelonins la Festa Major de Gracia és també una Festa Major de tot Barcelona. La Festa de la Mare de Deu d'Agost. Saló de Cent. 9/2/93. Fa malta il.lusió veure que esteu al Saló de Cent, que representa moltes coses. Per aquí, al terra i als bancs on seien els que se'n de j en els consellers, hi ha els símbols deis oficis; n'hi de pescadors, de sastres, de tonelers, de fusters... tots els oficis estaven representats en aquest;saló. Aixó vol dir que, quan es va ter el Saló de Cent, el 1390 -quan es va acabar, tot i que després va ser renovat per en Doménech i Muntaner a principis d'aquest segle-, aquí s'hi reunien els oficis de la ciutat, peról estic segur que aleshores els estudiants no s'hi reunien. En primer lloc perquè d'estudiants quasi no n'hi havia, perquè el pas de la familia al treball pràcticament era directe i l'aprenentatge es feia gairebé tot sobre la base del treball matefx, al propi taller. Que avui vosaltres seieu aquí, i que prengueu possessió de casa vostra, que ho és perquè ésIla casa de la ciutat, a mí em fa molta gracia í penso que és molt positiu.
