La ciutat de Barcelona ha estat molt i molt lligada a la vostra professió, i em consta que els metges han format part d'una manera molt prominent de la família municipal, des de 1886, que és quan es crea el Laboratori Municipal, dirigit aleshores pel doctor Jaume Ferran fins al 1905. Després pel doctor Ramon Turró, fins l'any 1926, i més tard pel doctor Pere González fins al fi nal de la guerra civil, de la nostra guerra. Aquest període en què es va viure la introducció de la vacuna del còlera i de la vacuna con tra la ràbia, gràcies a l'equip del doctor Ferran, amb en Jaume Pi i Sunyer, amb en Lluís Comenge, amb en Giner i Partagás; en el segon període, amb el doctor Turró, es va viure un episodi de pesta molt fort, 1905-1906, encara en aquest segle, i una epidèmia de tifus important l'any 14, en un moment en qué el doctor Turró està acompanyat d'en Lluís Claramunt i l'August Pi i Sunyer. A l'Institut Municipal d'Higiene, d'altra banda, que representa la medicina pràctica –no tant el centre hospitalari i d'investigació com van ser el Laboratori Municipal i l'Hospital del Mar–, inicialment, hi te- nirn el doctor Lluís Comenge des de 1891. Més tard, bastant més tard, l'Institut Municipal d'Investigacions Mèdiques, amb el doctor Foz i amb el doctor Gras, que del 1950 fins als Jocs Olímpics mantenen la{ qualitat d'una investigació important, dins del que és el terreny municipal. E4 aquesta ciutat ha passat que durant Molts anys hi ha hagut persones que han fet les seves armes, i les han fet amb gran qualitat, dintre del món municipal i després han passat a ser molt conegudes exterior- ment. I a la millor la història no els reconeix després coma funcionaris sinó com a grans metges. El cas d'en Pere Domingo és exactament igual: surt del Laboratori Municipal, acaba a Cuba i funda antibiòtics, com vosaltres sabeu. Bé, l'Institut d'Investigacions Mèdiques acaba convertint-se, finalment, en el famós laboratori antidopatge durant els Jocs Olímpics. No puc deixar d'esmentar els hospitals municipals, que vosaltres heu animat i que encara són la saba d'aquesta ciutat juntament amb els altres associats al Consorci Hospitalari de Barcelona: l'Hospital del Mar, amb el doctor Subirana, el doctor Molins i el doctor Bosch, que és el que jo vaig trobar quan vam arribar a l'Ajuntament amb la democràcia, i era un hospital que jo diria que estava malalt i que a poc a poc va anar millorant fins a ser ara un gran hospital; l'Esperança; el Geriàtric; el Psiquiàtric, amb en Costa Molinari, i no vull deixar d'esmentar l'epidemiologia, amb la seva lluita titànica, de vegades, com va ser la que van fer durant el famós brot d'asma al•lèrgica per la síndrome de la soja, que va ser l'objecte d'un estudi d'epidemiologia que es pot considerar un descobriment mundial. No se sabia que hi podia haver una asma, i una asma mortal de vegades motivada per la soja i va ser a Barcelona que es va descobrir. Perdonin, això és una pura anècdota, però és per dir que, realment, de sempre, els metges de Catalunya han estat molt bons servidors del nostre país. I després, com abans ja s'ha recordat, durant els anys seixanta i durant els anys setanta, i fins avui mateix. Vet aquí, doncs, tota una serie de raons per les quals jo em sentia moralment molt obligat avui a venir aquí, a saludar-los, a acompanyar-los en aquesta festa i en la joia d'aquesta festa. A donar-los les gràcies. Si tot el que es fa a Catalunya tingués el nivell que té l'activitat mèdica, Catalunya, en el rànquing dels països europeus, estaria més amunt que no està. Si totes les nostres activitats tinguessin el nivell que té la nostra medicina, nosaltres en conjunt estaríem més enlaire, estarïem més amunt. I per això he vingut a donar-los les gràcies, a demanar-los que segueixin –i sé que no cal–, que segueixin fidels a aquesta línia, que ha estat sempre la seva, en defensa de la llibertat en general, però d'una manera més específica també de la defensa dels catalans i de Catalunya. I, a més, que ho facin amb aquesta competència, amb aquesta qualitat tècnica i humana que els ha caracteritzat. Moltes gràcies, doncs, per tota la feina que han fet i expresso el meu desig que la puguin seguir fent amb el mateix esperit de servei al país i de servei als ciutadans, de servei als Malalts, de servei a la gent, concretament. M'atreviria a dir que en aquests moments la nostra classe mèdica, metges, infermeres, té molt en compte que la Feina d'un metge, naturalment, és cuidar el cossos, però cuidar-los de tal manera que la gent se senti humanament reconfortada, o humanament confortada. Em sembla que en molts sectors de la nostra medicina això també es té més en compte avui que no pas temps enrere. Per tot plegat, repeteixo, moltes gràcies i que durant molt de temps en el futur puguin seguir fent aquest servei a la seva professió i al nostre país.. I jo estic convençut que els metges patiu també del fet que una certa autoritat, que abans us era reconeguda d'una manera molt fàcil, ara probablement us costa més de mantenir. Però jo us demano que seguiu pensant que l'autoritat moral compta, i que la gent encara la respecta. A l'últim, vull desitjar-vos que aquests cent anys siguin la base d'un futur encara millor, que la salut pública d'aquesta ciutat i d'aquest país puguin seguir millorant amb la vostra ajuda i amb l'exemple que vosaltres heu donat, i que s'ha imposat en aquesta ciutat, ja que heu fet pràcticament que les institucions col . laboressin, que l'exemple de col .laboració que hi ha entre la Generalitat i l'Ajuntament en el camp de la salut pública es pugui estendre a altres camps. Jo de vegades em pregunto per què es va donar amb tanta força en el camp de la sanitat i de la salut pública, i penso que és perquè la vostra professió i la vostra professionalitat ho van imposar. Els diaris "La Vanguardia" i "Avui" van glossaren sengles editorials l'efemèride del Col.legi Oficial de Metges de Barcelona. Centenari mèdic El Col legi de Metges de Barcelona conmemorà el 29 de setembre passat el centenari de la seva fundació amb una trobada amb les institucions polítiques i mèdico-sanitàries ciutadanes, així com amb altres col . legis professionals. L'acte es va inscriure dins de l'ambiciós venta11 d'iniciatives amb què els metges barcelonins commemoraran els cent anys d'un col . legi professional que ha estat clau per a la ciutat de Barcelona i per a la seva projecció exterior. Però les celebracions, i això és important, no semblen dissenyades per subratllar només el passat, sinó perquè la professió mèdica barcelonina miri d'adequar la seva missió a una societat canviant, amb nous reptes i noves demandes. En aquest sentit, l'acte del passat dijous marcà la pauta que ha de seguir aquesta commemoració. Els objectius del Col .legi de Metges de Barcelona, en general, no s'han esgotat en les qüestions referents a la competència professional científica. Evidentment, aquests aspectes com en qualsevol professió, són absolutament bàsics i prioritaris. Però els metges de Barcelona, com els de la resta de Catalunya, també han estat actius i representatius socialment i política. Això, unit a la seva competència professional i científica, és el que ha fet de la medicina barcelonina no tan sols una de les més dinàmiques d'Espanya, sinó que la seva projecció internacional sigui prova inequívoca del seu alt nivell. Ningú millor que una corporació ja centenàri a pot conèixer els perills que comporta el corporativisme. És per això que el tarannà amb què el Collegi de Metges afronta el seu futur pot ser motiu de satisfacció per a tota la societat. Pera un col. lectiu la producció científica i la tasca d'assistència del qual són de p ri -merod,lantimeolra de la seva competència professional ha d'estar acompanyada d'una participació cada vegada més gran en l'esperit de progrés del país i en una més àmplia interrelació amb la societat civ il . Els desafiaments que la medicina mode rna té plantejats són múltiples. Una societat democràtica exigeix una millor preparació dels seus professionals, i els professionals d'una medicina cada vegada més científica han d'oferir garanties, però sense que la competència comporti una renúncia de la seva responsabilitat social. En aquest sentit, el tarannà obert –partidari d'una interrelació més gran amb la societat civil catalana– amb què el Col . legi de Metges de Barcelona afronta els actes commemoratius del seu centenari és la millor garantia de futur per a Barcelona i Catalunya. La Vanguardia, 1-10-94 Cent anys de servei mèdic El Col . legi de Metges de Barcelona compleix cent anys i en aquest primer segle d'existència ha esdevingut una institució clau en l'evolució de la ciutat i dels seus usos i costums sanitaris. Si, d'una banda, com altres estaments de la mateixa mena, el Col-legi va néixer amb una marcada vocació corporativa, d'una altra, resulta innegable que, al llarg dels anys, i amb els alts i baixos corresponents als difícils períodes polítics pels quals ha passat el país, la institució ha sabut incardinarse en la vida de la ciutat, hi ha projectat les seves inquietuds, l'ha ajudat decisivament en els seus avenços culturals, socials i assistencials. En camps tan diversos com el de la defensa i propagació de la llengua catalana o l'establiment d'un codi deontològic, el Col. legi de Metges de Barcelona ha tingut aportacions decisives, incorporades per sempre més al patrimoni de la ciutat. En definitiva, el Col . legi de Metges de Barcelona forma part destacada de l'entramat civil, social, que caracteritza Catalunya. Les entitats organitzadores formen part de la Coordinadora d'Entitats de Nou Barris, que agrupa unes 80 entitats del districte. - El districte de Nou Barris ha col.laborat en l'organització de lacte donant tot el suport logístic que ha calgut. Hi ha una bona relació del districte amb aquestes entitats, que es posa de manifest, també, amb la seva col.laboració amb els actes del dia d'Andalusia o amb la participació a la Caseta de la Feria de Abril que munta el CC.CC. Manuel de Falla a Santa Coloma. Altrament, aquestes entitats porten una vida molt activa al distrícte. El passat 4 de març, el regidor de presidencia va fer una xerrada sobre Carta Muncipal al Centre Cultural García Lorca Demà dissabte, Pere Jover, diputat a les Corts pel PSC-PSOE, parlará sobre la Llei d'Arrendaments Urbans al CC.CC. Manuel de Falla. Una de les qüestions que pot sorgir durant el sopar és el debat obert aquestes darreres setmanes sobre la prolongació del metro a Nou Barris. El mes d'octubre passat l'Alcalde es va adreçar per carta al president del Centre Cultural García Lorca, José Luis Jiménez, excusant la seva assistència a XII Certamen de Poesía "Federico García Lorca", que va tenir lloc el passat 17 de desembre. L'Alcalde posava de manifest la seva voluntat d'assitir-hi en una propera ocasió.
