Ha treballat en diversos mitjans de comunicació de premsa escrita, inicialment a Tele/Express, El Món o als informatius de TVE i a El País (1988-1991).
El 1991 entra a La Vanguardia, on ha estat redactor en cap d'informació local de Barcelona durant els Jocs Olímpics de 1992 i entre 1997 i 2000 corresponsal del Diari a Itàlia.
Actualment és director adjunt de La Vanguardia i cap de la delegació del diari a Madrid.

Va tenir diverses responsabilitats a l’Ajuntament de Barcelona, del que també en va ser regidor (1997-2004).
Durant els governs d’esquerres a la Generalitat de Catalunya, va ser Secretari del Govern (2003-2006) en el govern Maragall i Conseller d’Educació (2006-2010) en el govern Montilla.
Fou eurodiputat per L’Esquerra pel Dret a Decidir (2014-2016).
Ha estat fundador i militant del Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (1978-2012), fundador de Nova Esquerra Catalana (2012), que s’ha acabat integrant en el Moviment d’Esquerres (des de 2014).

Entrevista a Joan Clos i Matheu (Parets del Vallès, 1949) metge i polític.
Després de diversos anys exercint la professió mèdica, tant en la vessant clínica com en la de gestió, és nomenat Director dels Serveis Sanitaris de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona (1979-1983).
El 1983 esdevé regidor de l'Ajuntament de Barcelona en sortir escollit a les llistes electorals del PSC. Primer com a responsable de l'Àrea de Salut Pública (1983-1987), després com a regidor del districte de Ciutat Vella (1987-1991) i quatre anys després, com a segon tinent d'alcalde, amb responsabilitat directa sobre l'àmbit d'Organització, Economia i Hisenda (1991-1997).
Va ser Alcalde de Barcelona (1997-2006) agafant el relleu de Pasqual Maragall.
Ministre d'Indústria, Turisme i Comerç del govern Zapatero (2006-2008).
Ambaixador d'Espanya a Turquia (2008-2010).
Director Executiu d'ONU-Habitat, el Programa de Nacions Unides pels Assentaments Humans (2010-2018).
