Es para mi una satisfacción acogerles en el Saló de Cent del Ayuntamiento, que en su histórica función de sala de reunión del Gobierno de la ciudad estuvo estrechamente ligado a las actividads productivas y comerciales. Quiero saludar especialmente a Su Alteza el Príncipe Felipe, a quien tuve el honor de conocer en ocasión de los Juegos Olímpicos, cuando encabezó la representación de Bélgica. Presentación de Barcelona - Una ciudad transformada, que une a su rico pasado histórico su ambición de futuro apoyada en su dinamismo del presente. - El bilión (español) de pesetas de inversiones directas con motivo de la preparación de la ciudad para los Juegos Olímpicos �2- nos ha dejado una ciudad con infraestructuras competitivas. A ello hay que añadir la movilización de las energías de amplios sectores de la ciudad así como la experiencia adquirida en el campo de la organización. La ciudad ha crecido en cantidad i ha mejorado en calidad. Els nous projectes de Barcelona Però Barcelona no s'ha aturat amb els Jocs. Barcelona està transformant avui 1000 hectàrees de sol en una vintena de zones de la ciutat, en una estreta col.laboració entre l'Ajuntament i els promotors privats. Vostés tenen una publicació a les mans, anomenada "Barcelona New Projects", que els informa del que són aquests projectes i de les oportunitats de negoci que s'obren, en cada cas, per a la iniciativa privada. Amb molt de gust els ampliarem la informació en tot allò que sigui del seu interés. �3- La candidatura de Barcelona persa ser Seu de l'Agència Europea d'Avaluació dels Medicaments Però els projectes de Barcelona no es limiten, com és natural, al desenvolupament urbanístic. Tradicionalment, Barcelona ha estat un centre internacional de negocis de tota mena. Centenars d'empreses belgues operen des de fa molts anys entre nosaltres, algunes tan importants com Solvay, AGFA Gevaert, Glaverbel, Generale Bank o la Banque Bruxelles Lambert. Una prova de la vocació internacional i europea de Barcelona és la nostra candidatura per acollir la seu de l' Agència Europea d'Avaluació dels Medicaments. Des de fa més de dos anys i mig, el Govern Espanyol, la Generalitat de Catalunya, l'Ajuntament de Barcelona, tota la industria farmacèutica installada a Espanya, aplegada a Farmaindústria, i la Cambra de Comerç estem fent una activa campanya per aconseguir-ho. Vostés tenen en la documentació que els hem facilitat el llibre de presentació de la notra candidatura, de la que voldria destacar alguns punts: * Un magnífic edifici, ubicat al cor de la Vil.la Olímpica, a prop del mar, a quinze minuts de l'aeroport pel cinturó, que la ciutat de Barcelona ofereix perfectament equipat a la Comunitat �4 Europea. * La concentració del 60o de la industria farmacèutica instal.lada a Espanya està localitzada a Barcelona. * Barcelona té cinc Universitats de gran prestigi (130.000 estudiants), amb facultats de medecina, de biologia i de farmàcia molt reconegudes. * Barcelona compta amb un bon sistema sanitari públic, que ha estat recentment citat com a exemple per la OMS. * Algunes de les clíniques privades i centres de diagnòstic més prestigiosos d'Europa estaninstal.lats a Barcelona i acullen pacients de tot el món: Barraquer, Puigvert, Planas, Dexeus, Quirón, Corachán, etc. * El suport entusiasta de totes les institucions i empreses españoles, catalanes i barcelonines. També hi ha moltes empreses no espanyoles, de diferents països d'Europa que ens donen suport, així com diversos governs veuen amb simpatía la nostra candidatura, com és el cas d'Alemanya, Itàlia i França. El proper dia 29 es decidirà el repartiment de les seus europees. Bèlgica exerceix en aquest moment la presidència del Consell de Ministres de la Comunitat. Que vostès veiessin també amb simpatia �s,la nostra candidatura ens podria ajudar molt.
